In order to send messages across the U.S. the first transportation the invented called the Pony Express.

- Some Americans wanted to build the Transcontinental Railroad to connect the East to the West. Railroad owner known as the “Big Four,” were revered and despised for the money and power that the railroad brought them.
- The Government passed Pacific Railway Acts of 1862 and 1864, which allowed the railroad companies to start building this large train.
- Many people traveled to America just to have a job building this big railroad.
